Research on Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST)

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) has been widely researched, is used all over the world and provides a cost-effective way to encourage social interaction and positive connections, producing better mood, quality of life, and cognition.

The Effects of Social Isolation and Loneliness

The effects of social isolation on life expectancy are the same as smoking 15 cigarettes a day! With a 20% faster cognitive decline and 50% higher risk of dementia, chonic loneliness greatly impacts cognitive function as well. The healing effects of social connection and community cannot be understated.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who is the Memory Keepers program intended for?

Memory Keepers program is for people with mild to moderate memory loss and can be delivered by anyone who wants to provide them with cognitive stimulation and social engagement. This includes, but is not limited to geriatric care managers, social workers, Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, home health workers, care communities, places of worship, adult day programs, community centers, and family members/care partners of those with dementia.

Where do I start?

We recommend you start by viewing our free sample session under “Your Courses”. This free sample is a complete session including speaker notes and links. This will give you a great understanding of what a Memory Keepers session will look like.

I’m interested! Now what?

Next, you will need to subscribe to Memory Keepers. Your monthly subscription will provide access to the required course, “Training for facilitators: Enhance your interaction with groups and individuals with memory loss.” This course covers how to direct a group or individuals through our program, communication skills, and more!

Your subscription also provides you with access to sets of Memory Keepers sessions that can be delivered in-person or virtually to individuals or groups. You will also receive access to Facilitator Notes and other tools to help you provide quality Memory Keepers sessions.

Can I use a Memory Keepers set more than once?

Absolutely! Your monthly subscription fee provides access for you to use Memory Keepers sets for as many people or groups as you want, during the period you subscribe. Each set contains 15 sessions. Each set has a different variety of topics and activities. We recommend doing one session a week, which is almost 4 months of material.

What is the difference between the different Memory Keepers sets?

A single set consists of 15 Memory Keepers sessions. Each set has a different variety of topics and activities.
Some sets are theme-based, so that all topics fall under the same theme (such as Sports or Art).

What is the difference between the different subscription packages?

Subscription packages combine various courses and content we offer. They may also provide additional logins. Depending on your subscription package, you will receive additional training, Continuing Education Units (CEUs), access to forms and other materials, and more.

How often should I meet with my clients?

We suggest meeting weekly for 30 minutes to one hour per session. You can adapt the sessions for each client as needed based on their tolerance and ability to engage in the session.

What should I charge my clients per session?

You have the freedom to set your own rate. Additionally, there's a chance you could secure grant funding, enabling you to provide sessions to your clients at no cost. If you're charging privately, a recommended rate for group therapy is approximately one-third to one-half of your individual therapy session fee. For instance, if you charge $90 per hour for individual sessions, consider charging $30 to $45 per person for group sessions.

Can I bill insurance for Memory Keepers Sessions?

Some licensed clinicians such as Occupational Therapists (OTs), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs), and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) may be able to bill insurance for Memory Keepers sessions. Begin by checking with your state licensing department to find out if you are eligible to bill insurance. Reimbursement varies by region and insurance payer. Check out "Billing for Memory Keepers program" on the shop page.

How does it work when you provide the services for us?

If your organization sees the value in Memory Keepers but isn't ready to implement the program on your own, we can help! Here’s how it works:

  1. Subscribe to Our Content: Choose who you want to offer the program to (groups, individual clients, etc.)
  2. Trained Facilitator: We provide a trained facilitator to lead the groups and handle the intake process for an additional cost.
  3. Intake Sessions:We conduct intake sessions to introduce the program and its benefits to your clients, screening them to determine the best fit (group or individual sessions).
  4. Staff Training: Your staff members can join the sessions to receive additional one-on-one training from our facilitators. Eventually, they may take over the sessions once the process is established.

Customized Fit: The first step is to make an appointment with us so we can tailor the program to best meet your needs.
